iTunes Review
Even pop fans used to surprises must've done a double take when Gorillaz' "Feel Good Inc." became an inescapable hit in 2005. Its blend of Damon Albarn's detached vocal, Kinks-style bridge and fast-paced contribution from art-hop pioneers De La Soul suggested a restless film soundtrack, not a major airplay hit. Making even the multimedia outfit's eclectic debut sound a bit shy about leaping genre barriers, Demon Days was nicely represented by the single. Blending futurism with a downbeat assessment of current life on Earth, its sonic swirl indeed brought to mind visuals beyond the accompanying cartoon characters who "make up" the "band." "Every Planet We Reachis Dead" was fit for a striptease on a space station, while the Santa Esmeralda-like disco fusion of "Dare" brought to mind a horse-opera knockoff of Kill Bill. Albarn and co-founder Dan "The Automator" Nakamura proved that such gamesmanship would find many wide-open ears.
Customer Reviews
Ah-mazing!
Ah-hem.First of All I would like to know if someone hacked iTunes, mostly because of the whole bit of the extended iTunes review. Not that I mind, freedom to the people ;) , except for one of the last sentences, calling Gorillaz, 'dark and weird'. Well, then let me be the queen of dark and weird, because i do not see a darkness to this music. When I hear dark,it brings thoughts of heavy metal, with screeching instruments and humans, which I find excruciatingly annoying. No,if anything,Gorillaz is a light of some sort. The sort of thing that all of these mainstream musicians will never find.I don't feel happy after Katy Perry goes on about 'daisy dukes'and 'bikinis on top'.If anything,I feel irritated.I don't want any part of sensless hip-hop,to some quick, strobing beat. No,I want some music, with REAL instruments,REAL voices, and most of all...real thought.
Gorillaz is actual music,with great lyrics,lovely singing,and fantastic instruments.If that isn't music,I don't know what is.
So yes,I am one of those crazy fans, but not to something 'dark and weird'.My hair is not dyed black,I wear colored clothes, and my nails are not black.
Because Gorillaz is a light.
Gorillaz weren't merely born,but created.
Thats all, crazy loon chick is out ;D.
The Perfect Album
I never thought that a modern album with so many quirks and elements of electronica would ever become my favorite album of all time, but Demon Days is perfect. Theres such a mixture of different kinds of music; rock, rap, hip-hop, techno, gospel, etc, that it runs the risk of being convoluted and going in too many directions. Demon Days doesn't do this. What it does is create a perfect fusion of music that will please your ears for years to come and be as versatile as the mood of the listener. BUY THIS ALBUM.
Worth owning
Different than their first album in that there is a more hip hop feel to it. Love Dirty Harry and Kids with Guns. Miss Del on this album
