Internal Sounds

Internal Sounds

The Sadies took their time for Internal Sounds; they were determined to finish the album on their own terms and not have it taken away from them due to deadlines or budget constraints. The Toronto-based band admits that the record might suffer in the “immediacy” department due to this extra care—but it’s apparent The Sadies recoup beautifully in having their songs fully realized. The musicianship here never lacks for firepower or finesse. The uptempo country-rock of “Another Tomorrow Again” features layers of guitars doing what they do best and gliding into admirable solos when the breaks show up. Harmonies throughout the album are note-perfect and recall The Meat Puppets at their most desert-bound. Frontman Dallas Good (alone in the producer’s chair for the first time) keeps everyone in focus and grabs none other than Buffy Sainte-Marie for the dramatic psyched-out campfire finale, “We Are Circling.”
