iTunes Review
Named for Dickey Betts’ farm outside Macon, Ga., Idlewild South was the Allmans’ second album. The 1970 release finds them plowing some jazzy ground akin to what Traffic was doing around the same time, but with a distinctly Southern touch. The eclectic tune stack introduced Betts’ instrumental “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed,” which would soon grow beyond its seven-minute length into one of the group’s true epics. “Revival” hooked into a tent-meeting groove, becoming an early airplay favorite, while this “Hootchie Cootchie Man” was a fine example of rowdy, focused sprawl. Of course, both Duane and Gregg Allman were hitting on all cylinders, on top of a powerhouse rhythm section verging on the polyrhythmic. Their next move – the double album recorded at New York’s Fillmore East – would make the Allman Brothers Band undeniable rock stars. But their power is already here to be heard.

Pure magic
by joemcclureThe greatest jam band on earth.
begin here not with begginings
by Seven Cities BluesSorry ,the 73 beginnings issue was copied from a different master however most will not notice however there is a difference. The original Idlewild South is the bands best ever studio effort and hands down a rock classic and now remastered from the orginal Capricorn series. Duane known for his infamous harmonica style slide guitar work only plays slide on one number. But, he it may be favorite studio slide work by him. Tom Dowd was in charge and the brothers were in top form.
Amazing- one of the greatest
by keepinitoldschoolThis album is absolutely amazing. It has a relaxing air about it, and is very pleasing and beautiful to listen to. It kind of takes you back to the early 70s, and beautiful surroundings. Well composed, smooth and with a good use of blues and different instruments this is one of the Allman Brothers' finest-yet simplest- piece of work.
