Album Review

Tegan and Sara's If It Was You can quickly be summed up by using a few terms from music land that everyone should be familiar with: Lilith Fair, Alanis Morissette, power pop, and hooks. Combine all the ideas and you have Tegan and Sara. There are acoustic moments on If It Was You; there are also full-on pop/ rock moments. The singing is the primary focus of the album, with both sisters carrying the weight of the vocal work. Going back to their punk roots seems to have helped, as many of the songs seem more raw than what one might expect from a formerly acoustic duo. It seems that success is almost guaranteed for an act such as this, seeing as they've played with Ryan Adams, Neil Young, and Rufus Wainwright, and also appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman. Not a bad offering that is sure to catch on — as long as it can get noticed in that large bin of music labeled "lots of talent and commercial potential...we just need the right people to hear us."

T&S are amazing

LOVE this album... classic Tegan and Sara. "Living Room" is a fan favorite and they always end their fantastic live show with it. Other favorites are "Monday Monday Monday", "Not Tonight", "Don't Confess", and "Time Running". This album is different from their more recent albums (The Con and So Jealous), but still maintains that catchiness that all of their songs possess. It's nice to hear how much they've grown as musicians in just 4 years (This was originally released in 2003).

YAY!

this album is so awesome! im so happy that iTunes brought it back! woot woot!

My favorite album. With Reviews!!!

I bought this entire album with the confidence that Tegan and Sara would pull through for me. And they DID! This album is utterly fantastic and every song has amazing lyrics and amazing vocals. These girls are extremely talented. Way to go girls! Here are my reviews on the songs: 1) Time Running- This song is filled with lyrics that you can recite outside of the song. It paints a clear picture of time and their perception of it. [7pts] 2) You Went Away- This song is very straightforward. Its about breakups. Great song for dealing with breakups. [7pts] 3) Monday Monday Monday- One of my personal favorites. It's a very complete song. Great lyrics, great vocals, great instrumentals. If you only want to buy a couple songs from this CD, I suggest this be one of them. [10pts] 4) City Girl- This song seems like an apology from Tegan and Sara to someone. Its painting a picture of what they did and what they wish they hadn't done. Maybe if I was the person they were apoligizing to then I would like it more, but this is not one of my favorites. [5pts] 5) Not Tonight- Theres something about this song that has me enjoying it. I can't find out what it is though. Someone who doesn't really listen to the music would not like this, but if you really listen, then you would like it [7pts] 6) Underwater- Pretty Good song. [6pts] 7) I Hear Noises- Very good. I like this song a lot. Good job Tegan and Sara [8pts] 8) Living Room- My favorite song on this album. Definetly get this one. Very good imagery. Very very good. This is also probably one you have heard before if you browse music. [10pts] 9) Terrible Storm- Okay song. Just okay. [6pts] 10) And Darling- Another one of my favorites. I'm sure that everyone has felt like this at one time or another. [8pts] 11) Want to Be Bad- Theres something about this song that I can't put to words. You'll have to see for yourself [6.5pts] 12) Don't Confess- You'll like this one if you listen for lyrics. If you like a balance of it all, then you might find it a little boring. However, the lyrics are great. [7pts]

Folk-rock duo Tegan and Sara first burst onto the Canadian music scene in 1998, when they earned the highest score in history at Calgary's "Garage Warz" competition; their quick rise didn't stop, for their melodic acoustics and charming stage personas led to a slew of dates with Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair that same year and a record deal with Neil Young's Vapor Records in April 2000. Natives of Calgary, these twin sisters derived their music interests from the likings of their parents. Tegan and...
