Not Now.

Incubus's "If Not Now, When?" is by no means a bad album, but it is not the Incubus that is edgy or original. The songs are all average, making the overall experience average. There are no songs reminiscent of "Drive", "Wish You Were Here", "Anna Molly", or any of the like. Most, if not all, fans will be terribly disappointed in the path that Incubus has chosen to take. I wholeheartedly believe that they have alienated their fan base on this album. This is not an album I would be excited to see a live performance of, nor an album I would listen to in my car. I honestly do not know what they were thinking, but they missed their mark. For people who enjoyed "SCIENCE" or "Make Yourself" do not even bother purchasing this album. You can barely tell that it is the same band who made those amazing albums. Make no mistake, if a different band had made this album it would an average album, no more, no less. I wish I could give it 2 1/2 stars, but I cannot. Very disappointed all around by this album, but mostly because it is nothing like the Incubus everyone knows and loves. Nonetheless, I am a fan of Incubus for life. I just hope the next album is more aggressive and creative. I am bored with this album all ready.

Incubus's A Thousand Suns..

I'm not going to lie, I was pretty disappointed when i first heard some of the songs off this album, but then I quickly fell in love with most of them. This is called an experimental album, meaning Incubus wanted to go out and explore a new sound, it does not mean they are selling out. And I support bands that want to experiment with a new style instead of keep the same sound which can get annoying after a while. Also there are some amazingly beautiful songs on this album like the title track "If Not Now, When?", which is a great melody that shows how creative and down-to-earth this band really is. There are also some original Incubus sounding tracks like the catchy "Switchblade" (which is my favorite off the album), "Thieves", and "Adolescents". But I think the best track off the album is "In The Company Of Wolves" because it is the most progressive song off the album and the ending is just freakin EPIC! So all in all it was a great album, some people will love it, some people will hate it, and some people will learn to like it! This album might not be for everyone, but in the end, it's music, and i don't know what the world would be without it. It's great to have Incubus back!

And the only reason I referred it to A Thousand Suns is because Linkin Park are experimenting too and their fans seem to hate it, and we all know alot of old-school Incubus fans most likely do not like the direction Incubus is going with their music either. I have all Incubus albums and claim to be an old-school fan myself, and S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is my favorite album, but hey i still love the guys and I support whatever direction they take their music to. :)

Honesty

I believe that Incubus has truly broken from the mold on this one. Not to say that they have ever been in any type of mold other than their own. I think on this album, they have broken their own mold. I think that there are a lot of fans that are disappointed with this album because it doesn't sound anything like their previous albums. What people seem to not understand is that Incubus is not the same band it was when it wrote SCIENCE or Make Yourself or any of the other albums. They are not the same people. They have grown up. I think that if Incubus tried to recreate what they did on previous works, the whole point of being a band would be lost. This album is a breath of fresh air in a world of smokey, toxic haze. I can't decide what my favorite song is because I feel like for the first time, this album is one whole piece of work that wouldn't be the same without all of the ingredients. I love how the album begins with the title track because of the simplicity and the brute strength of Brandon's voice. From there, I think the track order couldn't be more thought out. Going acoustic in the middle with "Defiance" and coming back slowly but elegantly with "In The Company of Wolves." Lastly, the last three songs of the album seem to play as the outro. Getting a bit upbeat with "Swtchblade" then easing in to the first single, "Adolescents" and then faring well with "Tomorrow's Food". Great album, great band, great people. Can't wait to hear it live.

Incubus became one of the most popular alt-metal bands of the new millennium, setting themselves apart from a crowded field with a tireless touring ethic and a broad musical palette.
