D.R.U.G.S + Craig Owens > Chiodos - Craig Owens.
it's simple math really.
I'm in love.
Two songs in and I think I've already found my new favorite band.
I REALLY want to like this band.
I like Craig Owens. Dare I say, I like Craig Owens more than peanut butter. I started listening to Chiodos' album "All's Well that Ends Well" and was hooked on that band, and was shocked and upset when he was fired from the band.
So I've been waiting with baited breath for D.R.U.G.S. to release new material. They finally delivered with "If You Think This Song is About You, It Probably Is." listening to the song I was struck by the slow building momentum it had, but as it progressed I started to get on board. And then it ended. In a strange abrupt way, the song was cut off like a elderly woman in traffic. The thought wasn't even finished it seemed. But I thought, this is probably an isolated incident.
It wasn't. With the release of their second single "Mr. Owl Ate Metal Worm" (which is a nice palindrome by the way), the band fell short again. Don't get me wrong, it's a great song. I feel the Used probably agrees, seeing as they've written the same song multiple times themselves. I spent the entire song with a feeling of deja vu about the riffs, beats, and melody lines (actually, especially the melody lines).
Basically, I want to love and support this band, because I love and support it's members. But they aren't making it easy thus far. All I can do is hope that these songs will somehow seem better in the context of an album, and that the guys in D.R.U.G.S. will have something more meaningful to offer us in the future.
