Excellent Power Pop
by

These guys haven't released anything in several years, but the wait was worth it. They make some of the catchiest power pop ever, with a sense of humor, even ("Hunting with Cheney", "Billy Buckner"). If you want a good sample, download "Man Overboard"; after one listen you'll probably want to get the whole album. Top-notch musicianship coupled with insanely hooky songs make this my favorite album of 2009 so far.
Same as before only better...

The Mustard Seeds are back doing what they mastered long ago- how to combine edgy grunge with amazing melodies. This latest CD brings a smooth production level way beyond their previous CD's, and the effort really shows. Everything sounds very well-recorded. Doug's gritty vocals contrast with Matt's silky harmonies so well that its seamless, and if you're a musician forget it.... this CD is rife with tasty licks all around. Plenty of Matt Bissonette's signature melodic bass runs and gobs of tasty guitar fills and textures abound (along with the familiar 'swimmy-guitar'), all effortless and tasteful as not to be a distraction to the tune. The lyrics are very creative and down-to-earth, yet optimistic (if I had to sum up in one sentence) with topics ranging from love, politics, sports and spirituality. If you loved The Mustard Seeds previous CDs, there is plenty of that in here, but they have definitely expanded on that palette to bring some freshness to this latest project. You won't be disappointed. Fans of King's X and Ty Tabor, Foo Fighters, Lifehouse, Switchfoot, and I'm sure many others will love this CD. Enjoy...
Simply Brilliant

The Mustard Seeds lead my list of "Best Band You've Never Heard Of, But Should". They take their time between discs for sure, but the result is absolutely worth the wait. III is the strongest of their CD's, which says a lot, because the 1st and 2nd CD's were brilliant. Doug Bossi and George Bernhardt handle the guitars, with Doug pulling double-duty on lead vocals, while Matt Bissonette and Jorge Palacios hold down arguably the tightest rythym section around today. They drive the music with determination and display their skills without ever over-playing. King's X and Beatles undertones fill this disc with standout tracks like Dorian Gray and Oxygen, but truly there isn't a weak song on the entire disc.
