Rhythm, blues, lyrical genius
Do you have a soul? Do you have ears? If you answered yes to both of those questions, you owe it to yourself to own this album. Chris Bergson and his stellar bandmates have outdone themselves on this one. Bergson's guitar work is always stunning. More important, though, it's always in the service of finding the heart and soul of the song (and of his listeners.) He's never just showing off his chops, though this guy certainly has plenty of them to show! So do the others in the band: their beats and their lines insinuate their way in through your ears and your feet, and they stay there for good. I can listen to this music as straight ahead blues rock that makes me and my girl want to dance. I can also go all musicologist, and listen to it as an incredibly subtle and strong example of musicianship that has consciously inherited a gorgeous tradition-- the blues, people!-- and made something truly original from that. And, I can enjoy the lyrics-- Bergson and Kate Ross are superb wordsmiths. Check out the rhymes and metaphors in "Laying it Down in White" or the comic lines in "Mr. Jackson" or the subtle shifts in tone of the character portrayed in "Shattered Avenue." This album is totally first rate. It represents the very best of what's happening in blues these days.

Heard these guys on Ron and Fez last week and immediately bought the album. It's amazing!
Got to buy it and feel it
I have never written a review before but am compelled to praise this because i love chris bergson's voice. Standing in the Doorway is better than the Dylan original !
