The Good (aggro+melody), The Bad (drums) And The Ugly (Song of the Martyr)
Sounds a little more melodic (with aggro tones) than Minus All, but something seems off. Their semi-minimalist sounds gets grating at times (especially the unimaginative drumming). I grow tired of "EBM/Industrial" bands insisting they need live drumming on their recording(s) and/or during live sets. I really don't hear much of the guitar that everyone mentioned prior to the release of the new recording. So, that's a good thing in my book. The cliched use of the guitar by "EBM/Industrial" bands is kinda lame. I'm a huge fan of Hardcore (NYHC) music, so I'm not hating on guitars nor am I a synth/DAW purest. But I digress. I've given this recording a couple of "spins" and it's growing on me. I think it's a step forward from Minus All. I just wish IR threw in a little more System Syn into their mix. ;)
All in all, a fairly solid new recording from IR (sans the drone/rock-like drumming). I just wish they would have disposed of "Song of the Martyr". The chorus totally kills the song for me. Meh...
This is the album we've been waiting for
Well, it took Ted Phelps & Company 6 albums to get there but they finally arrived. A perfect blend of rock, industrial, dance and electronica. Bravo - 5 stars!
