Contemporary Christian Music at Its Best

Fans of independent contemporary Christian music have a new treat waiting for them. Olivette, the duo of vocalist/songwriter Cameron Dezen Hammon and multi-instrumentalist/writer/producer Matt Hammon, released their latest EP, “Improvise” on November 2. “Improvise”, a follow-up EP to last year’s “Come and See” (Olivette’s debut disc, released in late 2009 to strong reviews), beautifully showcases the immense talent – and growth - of the pair in three tightly-crafted songs.
Where “Come and See” is a great blend of original, traditional, and Christmas songs, “Improvise” is straight-up contemporary Christian songcraft exploring familiar themes of faith, hope, and love, while remaining incredibly accessible and, well, fun.
Cameron’s vocals are the centerpiece of this EP, and she’s never sounded better. There’s a relaxed, smooth vibe that makes these songs come to life. The instrumentation, especially Matt’s guitar work, adds incredible depth and color – perfectly complementing the vocals without ever fighting them. Every time I listen to these new songs I hear new layers – the production quality is superb.
Pick up this EP. If you haven’t had a chance to check out last year’s “Come and See”, it’s a great time of year to add it to your holiday rotation as well. Enjoy.
