iTunes Review
Producers Chris Coady (TV On the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beach House, etc.) and Ben Allen (Animal Collective, Deerhunter, Gnarls Barkley) were the perfect duo to helm In Light. The record has an exuberant, confident sound, ready for radio and Pepsi commercials while still appealing to music fans who run screaming from chart-topping factory hits. The single, “Up Up Up” could easily be labeled one of THE summer songs of 2011, with its faintly Afropop guitars, sparkling xylophone and airy vocals beckoning bare feet to get their dance on. Similar tunes, like “Meantime” — joyful, Tropicali pop — and “Saw You First,” with its clattering percussion and faux steel drum accents, are standout moments where the Louisiana quintet evoke the summery, breezy feel of Vampire Weekend, delivering the kind of world- and sun-kissed pop that is hard to resist. Singers Taylor Guarisco and Tiffany Lamson both have immensely appealing voices, and with their playful instrumentation (guitars that both howl and twitter, twinkling keyboards and flute, spirited tambourines and varied percussion), the band’s self-confidence is both refreshing and well earned.

They Give, I Take
A couple weeks ago, it was a warm, joyful night and my family and I were driving around the streets of downtown Sacramento. As we stopped at a red light to take a picture of the capitol building, the song “Up, Up, Up” started playing on Sirius XMU. I must say, I was taken aback. The song was wonderfully jubilant with an alluring afro-beat sound that captured my ears for the duration of the song. I wanted to rush back to the hotel at that moment to buy the song.
Now, about a month later, “In Light” is released to expand on what I enjoyed in the single. Givers truly give us music to indulge in as we please. This exciting, rhythmic, up-beat album will give me and many others some tunes to dance around to while at the beach or at a party this. Givers gave us their music at a perfect time, it’s almost graduation and the freedom of summer is right around the corner. I am so excited that I and the rest of the world will be able to have this album on constant replay as the sounds of summer 2011.
Simple
It just sounds like summer!
Great Album
I'm not one to write reviews and bought this purely based on the previews of the songs. This album is a pleasant surprise to say the least. Givers are an eclectic mix of musical styles. If you enjoy Vampire Weekend, The Very Best and Ra Ra Riot you will really enjoy this album. In Light is a great start for a talented group of musicians.
