iTunes Review

The Raveonettes have an indestructible formula, provided they follow it. The duo know how to evoke the sweet pop of yesteryear (“Last Dance”) with a few earnest backing vocal “oohs” to fill in the cavernous reverb and balance out the unrelenting basslines and tough, distorted guitars. Achieving that balance is what counts and throughout their fourth album, the duo hit the sweet spot. The topics may be dark and the overall sound is often deliberately murky, but there’s a sense of joy lurking underneath that layer of grime. The Jesus and Mary Chain, an obvious influence, never got quite this sweet (“Heart of Stone”). By their titles, “Boys Who Rape (Should Be Destroyed),” “Suicide” and “Oh, I Buried You Today” sound like the work of a death-metal ensemble, but sure enough, the bouncy keyboard lines, the light pop harmonies, the doo-wop to girl-group vocal arrangements, the sincerity and warmth of old R&B ballads are all evoked without irony. These are some of their catchiest and most fun tunes to date.

Another amazing album

Another bunch of gorgeous songs about horrible things. I've never heard a prettier song about rape ;) The Raveonettes blend so many different influences from classic girl groups but still end up sounding totally unique. The best tracks are "Last Dance" and "Suicide." I caught myself singing along after the second listen. I can't wait to see them live in a few weeks!

Unbelievable

I seriously can't get enough of this album. It's really all I want to listen to! Sometimes I'll try out some other songs, but then I never really finish listening to them, and I just go back to this. Best album I've bought since Merriweather Post Pavillion. Best Songs are:
-Boys Who Rape (Should All Be Destroyed)
-Suicide
-Last Dance
-Bang!
-Oh, I Buried You Today

Of course all of them are great, but those are my favorites.

So unique

This band is really original and has truly a unique sound to them. All the songs are really good but my personal favorite is Last Dance and you should definetly check them out.

Biography

Formed: Copenhagen, Denmark

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '00s

Combining the noisy swells of the Jesus and Mary Chain with melodic elements of '50s rock & roll, the Raveonettes formed in Copenhagen during the early 2000s. Guitarist Sune Rose Wagner had tried assembling a band for several years, traveling between New York City, Las Vegas, Hollywood, and an island outside of Seattle in his search for likeminded musicians. A longtime fan of Bob Dylan, he also prized the songwriting of Buddy Holly, the harmonies of the Everly Brothers, and the guitar work of...
