iTunes Review

What makes Saosin stand out from all of the other Vans Warped Tour emo bands is their tighter lock on vocal harmonies and a more versatile guitarist who can easily segue from ‘90s indie rock tones to heavier rock riffs executed with taste and finesse. “I Keep My Secrets Safe” opens Saosin’s long awaited sophomore album with an early-‘80s post-punk influence — though their emo roots blossom handsomely by the first chorus. Along with band members Beau Burchell and Chris Sorenson, John Feldman, Butch Walker and Lucas Banker all helped with production, yet In Search of Solid Ground doesn’t sound like there were too many cooks in the kitchen. Fans may recognize three cuts from 2008’s The Grey EP. The opener is a revamp of “Keep Secrets” with a new chorus, the melancholic “The Worst of Me” is a re-titled “Love Maker” (the new moniker lifted from a line in the chorus) and the winding “Why Can’t You See” is a slightly edited version from the EP. The bonus track is an acoustic version of “Changing” which almost sounds like the band Rogue Wave covering a Saosin song.

Seems to Sellout

Yes everything is toned down, most importantly the drums, in terms of it being buried in the mix, and not complex and dynamic as it used to be. It seems as if Saosin tried to get more radio air time by conforming to mainstream sound, which is sad. However, some songs are enjoyable, such as Changing, Fireflies, On My Own, the remakes, however WTF is up with Nothing is What It Seems (Without You), Its All over Now, and What were We made for?!?! Those songs were horrible, and disappointing to hear, maybe its just because they changed labels, but i know this album could have been greater

Saosin's latest release is good. Nothing more, nothing less. Cove's voice seems to have improved quite a bit, but the instrumentals that we all appreciated so much in previous releases appear to be drowned out to give the spot light to Cove. Songs like Seven Years or even Translating the Name have instrumentals and vocal harmonies that out-play every aspect of every song on In Search of Solid Ground. Like I said, the music is good, but saying any Saosin song is just good is quite a disimprovement from their previous Albums and EPs. Worth listening too for sure, but don't expect the original Saosin album.

Not a good album.

Do not buy it, i made the mistake and bought it for $15.80. Its incredibly boring and doesn't flow as well. I like cove more than anthony and everything, but this album is just entirely BORING. It's not upbeat, its not interesting, the instrumental value is horrible since Coves voice sings over everything. Do not buy this! You will be sorry like me.(the only reason i rated it 2 is because its still saosin and it isn't awful, they just changed in a way i really disliked.)
