Album Review

Prior to Corrosion of Conformity's 2005 release, In the Arms of God, many fans wondered if the group was over. After all, it had been a long time since the band had issued a studio set (2000's America's Volume Dealer). During this extended break, singer/guitarist Pepper Keenan did double duty in Down (2002's Down II: A Bustle in Your Hedgerow), and of course, had a much publicized tryout for the vacated bass position in Metallica (as seen in the indulgent Some Kind of Monster docu-film). But now COC is ready to roar once more, and the group does so on their eighth studio album overall. Joining Keenan once more are other mainstays Woody Weatherman (guitar) and Mike Dean (bass), as well as a big surprise on drums — Galactic timekeeper Stanton Moore. To prime themselves for the sessions, the group immersed themselves in old hardcore and metal albums they hadn't listened to in years, and the approach worked, as In the Arms of God is a straight-ahead and raw set. The beginning of the album opener "Stone Breakers" closely resembles a Tony Iommi-led Sabbath jam, while such other ragers as "Paranoid Opioid" and "Never Turns to More" are classic COC. Along with Black Label Society, COC continue to wave the biker metal flag high.

first review, really??

I'm surprised no one has reviewed this album... this was on many lists to be the best rock album of the year. This album is, in my opinion, the strongest COC has done. With Stanton Moore (Galactic) behind the kit, the drums have developed into a focal point and turn this album into an instant classic. Now hopefully they will decide to turn out another sometime soon... Strongest tracks: Stonebreaker, Paranoid Opioid, In The Arms of God, Never Turns to More... just buy the whole album, then go and get Down III.

Cool Album!!!

The Song In the Arms of God is one of the most KICKASS songs Ever!!!!!!!

Into The Arms Of God-COC

Please keep in mind I am writing this in 2010. Now im a fsn of COC snd Down..so if I had my druthers we will have both. That being said, this record is killer and the music rivals any released by eitheer band. Now--this record may not be Wiseblood or even Deliverance--but it makes a stronger initial statement than either of those records. This thing is basically Sabbath on Roids--Paranoid Opiod--c'mon--if those rythem patterns and VOX arent Sab then neither is Geezer Butler...They almost come out and dare you to say they are copying Sabbath--but its so good and slams--who cares--and neither do they. Stanton Moore's drumming makes the record--and Pepper saw that--and wanted it. The John Custer production is killer, which also propels the record. Too bad Metallica didnt ask him to do Death Magnetic...anyway you get the picture. This record may never be as popular as the ones before it, but it might be the best they have and will ever put out. Just put it in, turn it up load, and listen to it from start to finish.

One of the first punk-metal fusion bands, Corrosion of Conformity (C.O.C. for short) were formed in North Carolina by guitarist Woody Weatherman during the early '80s. In their early years, C.O.C. became known for their aggressive sound, intelligent political lyrics, and willingness to break away from both hardcore and metal conventions. In the '90s, their shift to a more stripped-down, deliberate sound — sort of Black Sabbath filtered...
