Album Review

After an almost decade-long hiatus, Mercyful Fate's reunion did not disappoint; it was as if they picked up right where they had left off. There are more of King Diamond's gothic tales of horror and the supernatural, and the music sounds better than ever. It doesn't have the historical significance of their early-'80s material, but that doesn't really matter; this is high-quality material from a tight veteran band. The CD features a re-recorded version of the underground classic "Return of the Vampire" with Lars Ulrich on drums.

Customer Reviews

One of Mercyful Fate's most over-looked albums.

This enchanting album of the dark tells us tales of times with melodic metal phrashing and heavy driving riffs from one of the bands that have been well at it for years. This album will capture your imagination and take you into the storys of which King Diamond tells. If you have not experienced the Fate, it's your time.

Packing List for Eternity

a classic

There are many rock albums that are classics in my opinion and as well generally acknowledged....Judas Priest Sad Wings of Destiny, Black Sabbath Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Deep Purple Made in Japan, Alice Cooper Billion Dollar Babies etc. this is equal with any and all of them...one of very few recordings that exhibit such consistency of quality throughout. A must for any serious heavy rock fan...

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s

Danish band featuring vocalist King Diamond, guitarists Hank Shermann and Michael Denner, bassist Timi Hansen, and drummer Kim Ruzz. Mercyful Fate won a large cult following thanks to their dramatic lyrics, showing a Gothic obsession with evil and the occult, and Diamond's amazing vocal range, which shifted from a low growl to a banshee scream, plus the interplay of Shermann and Denner. The band broke up after two full-length albums owing to differences of opinion about what direction the group should...
