iTunes Review

1970s pop-rocker Suzi Quatro’s first album in five years reunites her with her original writer and eventual producer Mike Chapman, who went on to produce Blondie, the Knack and many others. They work together with only slight modernizations in the sound department. Otherwise, these tunes could have been written and recorded back in those long-gone ‘70s. Rihanna’s “Breaking Dishes” has a serious rock attack crashing through the sound. Goldfrapp’s “Strict Machine” has the sass that made Quatro a star as Leather Tuscadero on the classic sitcom Happy Days. “A Girl Like Me” retains a glam-pre-punk appeal. “Whatever Love Is” takes a harder pop-rock turn, sounding like what the ‘80s should’ve been more about. “Hot Kiss” kicks up some dirt. “Turn Into” throws a Shangri-La’s beat behind the action. The Sweet’s Andy Scott produces the final track, “Singing With Angels,” Quatro’s stirring tribute to Elvis Presley, performed with Presley’s guitarist James Burton and backing vocal group the Jordinaires.

What decade are we in??

Joan Jett's inspiration can still rock.
The best thing I can say about this album is it sounds like Suzi in pre "Happy Days" mode.
Listening to this reminds me of 1977 and a friend had just turned me on to Suzi and I couldn't stop listening.
Good album and well worth the buy.

It's pretty far-fetched, as some revisionists are now claiming, to view Suzi Quatro as a precursor to the "riot grrrls" of the '90s. Her brand of mid-'70s glam pop was far more innocuous and, in any case, often supplied by professional songwriters. What she did prove was that it was possible for a petite woman to play bass, sing, and wear leather with a reasonable degree of raunch and pride. That, with enough musical hooks to draw in the teen pop crowd,...
