An exceedingly strong debut
You'd be hard-pressed to find a stronger songwriting debut than this. Tam Lin has on several of the songs here (Age of Ignorance, In the Twilight, Stay Hungry and Lucia come first to mind) achieved an extraordinarily rare blend of infectious melody, taut storytelling and invigorated experimentation. Pick up a few of the aforementioned tunes here and see if they don't leave you simultaneously deeply moved and overjoyed.
Enchanting
Every song is a story, done in Tam Lin's rich voice, that takes you to another place. Smooth and lyrically-driven, these are not songs to play at your next dance party. No, these are songs for late nights and lazy afternoons. Tea and coffee. A cocktail. Think of this: Mix equal parts The Mountain Goats, Bob Dylan, Colin Meloy, Jeff Buckley, and John Lennon. Add a dash of Jump Little Children, and something extra. Tam Lin may be comprable to legends, but he is also wholly himself. And brilliant.
