iTunes Review

In Through the Out Door, Led Zeppelin’s final studio album, was also one of the few pre-SoundScan era releases to debut atop the Billboard chart. Coming after a three-year-plus wait, the record delivers some of Zeppelin’s most ambitious work. The Latin-tinged “Fool in the Rain” again demonstrates the quartet’s unique approach to dance music, while the pomp-rock spectacular “Carouselambra” allows John Paul Jones’ keyboards to take the spotlight. The definitively silly country romp “Hot Dog,” though, is maybe the least typical thing to ever come from this always surprising band. And the album's closer, “I’m Gonna Crawl,” proves that Led Zep had hardly forgotten the meat-and-potatoes thud that first won them an audience. If a great band need leave the stage, let it always be with such happily venturesome sounds.

The Last Flight ...

In 1979, when this was released, I couldn't go anywhere that summer and NOT hear this album playing in someone's car stereo, boom box, or home sound system. Again, we have the variety for which the band had become known -- and in the span of less than forty-three minutes -- we have a taste of each of the flavors of the band's entire oeuvre. Contains the beautiful love song All My Love, and the spooky In The Evening -- along with such variety as can be heard in South Bound Saurez and Fool In The Rain. Also contains the rockabilly-tinged boogie-woogie track Hot Dog. Finally, we have the last great epic in Carouselambra -- which conatins Thelemic themes in its' lyrics. Jimmy Page is a Magus in the ceremonial magick system of Thelema -- and THIS is how these themes got into the lyrics, I suppose. As a footnote -- when first released on vinyl LP in 1979 -- In Through The Out Door arrived in a brown bag -- which concealed one of seven album covers. The photos were of people in a barroom -- and all seven photos were taken from the individual perspectives of each person in that pub. A rather interesting novelty, to be sure.

REMASTERED NOT RE-RECORDED! YYYAAAAYYYY!!!!!

This album lives up to what the term remastered means: a clean, crisp digital transfer from an original analog recording! I owned an original pressing of this this on vinyl many years ago and after hearing it again via iTunes I can tell you that this is precisely the same album. No instrumental modifications, over-dubs, added or deleted segments, etc. My all time favorite song from this group is on this one: All My Love (sorry, Stairway to Heaven, I'm weird that way). A haunting tune that brought back some strong memories. Now if only iTunes can get into the Beatles' action and Hearts by Marty Balin. Toss in a splash of Vacation (Holiday Road) by Lindsey Buckingham and you have a winning combination. How about it, iTunes? :-)

One of the best songs ever

Fool in the rain is the jam! Rest of the album is great but how can you not love that song? Its just so simple and fun,i mean come on!

Led Zeppelin was the definitive heavy metal band. It wasn't just their crushingly loud interpretation of the blues — it was how they incorporated mythology, mysticism, and a variety of other genres (most notably world music and British folk) — into their sound. Led Zeppelin had mystique. They rarely gave interviews, since the music press detested the band. Consequently, the only connection the audience had with the band was through the records and the concerts. More than any other band,...
