Perfect
My newborn was awakened by her voice and stayed awake and quiet the entire time. WOW! From the mouths of babes...The best word to describe this album is perfect. It is the PERFECT blend of language, not lyrics, but language and music. Thea's poetry was not produced. It was scored. Like a movie scene, I am drawn in by her words, wrapped in the music, sometimes unaware that it is there, capturing the moment, each word, line PERFECTLY. I am inspired.
Best Spoken Word Album
I've been around the National spoken word scene for over a decade and have always had a love/hate relationship with poetry CDs. I love spokenword, but I could never just put on a CD while I'm cleaning or driving (UNTIL NOW). You don't have to be in the mood for poetry to enjoy this CD! You've done it Thea. You and GaKnew have finally shown the world how a Spokenword CD should sound. THANK YOU!
1st - 2nd - 3rd Appreciation
I've had this CD for a few months now and I'm starting to appreciate it for the 3rd time. The first time I heard it, I was adjusting to the movie-like soundtrack which is a stark contrast to most poetry CD's which try to turn their poems into songs. The second appreciation I had was listening to the honesty and realism of the experiences Thea Monyee writes about. Having been a fan of Thea's poetry from Def Jam and around the DPL and LA Poetry scene, this CD allowed me to experience her work without the distraction of the poet - meaning you're more able to feel the poem rather than think about the poet delivering the poem. My 3rd appreciation of this CD comes a person who owns over 50 spoken word CD's. I have less than 10 that I continue to listen to after the first month. Most poetry CD's have a few poems that you want to upload in your iTunes, but In/Tuition is a album you'll want to play from start to finish on those days you looking for extra inspiration in life.
