Album Review

Not to be confused by any means with the band's debut album (which happens to share the very same title), MCA Special Products' Incense & Peppermints collects ten highlights from the group's four albums for UNI Records. Budget-line collections are notorious for offering a random selection of songs, but Incense & Peppermints feels as if it were assembled with a bit more care, since it contains the group's five charting hits — "Incense and Peppermints," "Tomorrow," "Sit with the Guru," "Barefoot in Baltimore," and "Good Morning Starshine" — and the remaining cuts contain such cool obscurities as "Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow," "Birdman of Alkatrash," and "Strawberries Mean Love." Such unpredictable inclusions make this a budget-line disc worth picking up, especially if you don't want to invest in more exhaustive compilations.

Great mix of songs

Great mix of songs from SAC's career! I'm surprised we haven't heard "Strawberries Mean Love" played in the background of a strawberry yogurt commercial. Maybe when somebody comes out with some psychedelic strawberry swirl ice cream or something (Ben & Jerry's)! Oh well, it's all meaningless nouns...

...who has gotten this far in the reviews of STRAWBERRY ALARM CLOCK anyway ? the title says it ALL for a lot of folks who don't proofread what comes from absolutely innocent keyboards. yet life requires living, so let's just smile. how about this: imagine the mamas and papas practicing to achieve the chord patterns knocked down by this bunch of true musicians. my greatest attraction to the STRAWBERRY ALARM CLOCK is the weird chord progressions in most of their tunes. let 'tomorrow' 'barefoot in baltimore' or 'black butter past - present - future' float out of your ipod and you may enjoy this music anew. sounding psychedelikkk and yes - maybe - depending on how much you really love music, dated, yet what's wrong with really good musicianship?? most music today should come across as this sincere, competant and, mostly, this much fun. seriously, play whatever sac songs you like over and over and enjoy.....

Biography

Formed: 1966 in Los Angeles, CA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '60s, '70s

Strawberry Alarm Clock occupies a peculiar niche in the history of '60s rock. Their name is as well known to anyone who lived through the late-'60s psychedelic era as that of almost any group one would care to mention, mostly out of its sheer, silly trippiness as a name and their one major hit, "Incense...
