iTunes Review

On Infinity on High, Fall Out Boy's first album since hitting the Big (Really Huge) Time, tracks like “Fame < Infamy” and “Don’t You Know Who I Think I Am?” find the band wrestling with topics like sudden fame and celebrity. Bass player and lyricist Pete Wentz’ maturity and insights prove disarming, entertaining, and helpful in writing songs with humor and surprising depth. (Bon mots such as, “Bandwagon's full. Please, catch another,” and “I thought I loved you / but it was just how you looked in the light” threaten to lodge his tongue permanently in his cheek).  Small surprises work to keep things fresh in the band’s familiar emo-pop realm: the metallic guitar barbs on “Thriller,” the sweet “doo doo dooo”s sprinkled like candy all over “This Ain’t a Scene,” and Patrick Stump’s pop croon on “I’m Like a Lawyer” show a willingness to stretch and bend.  Any original fans disappointed by the relatively light, pop feel on “Golden” and “The (After) Life of the Party,” will find solace in the breakneck speed of  “You’re Crashing” and the hint of Bad Religion guitar grandiosity on  “Bang the Doldrums.”

I used to hate fall out boy when i would hear them on MTV and the radio and think they were another "talentless" "sound the same" modern pop punk band, then i found out that Fueled by Ramen produced thier first album (co founded by the drummer of my favorite band Less than Jake). I looked at that album and found it sounded pretty awesome and lessthanjake-ish sounding. From there i thought to myself "it must be that newer produced stuff that was annoying me" because of that misconception i refused to really look into this album, but not so long later i figured "what the hell" and got it anyway, to my amazement i concluded that this was by far their most powerful album. Don't get me wrong though there is some filler here, but the few songs that arn't so great are made up in how much of a BANG the rest of the CD gives you. Thriller is just o.k., the take over, the breaks over, is an amazing song and rounds off very well. This aint a scene its an arms race is a hell of a track and packs a punch, I'm like a lawyer... honestly couldn't grab my attention too much, but that is made up with Hum hallelujah overall greatness and completeness. Other gems include Thnks fr th mmrs is spelled very wierd but nonetheless is a catchy song, followed by the even better rocking song "don't you know who i think i am, Bang the doldrums is catchy, powerful, and an extremely good song right along with the similar Fame > Infamy. and finally your crashing but youre no wave ends with quite an explosion. The others and the bonus tracks are all good also, but i assure you the one's listed are near perfect!

fall out boy is cool
