Album Review

Although they like to call their style "extreme power metal," in actuality Dragonforce is an honest to goodness prog metal band. If you were to mix the lyrics/subject matter of Dio, the guitar work of Yngwie Malmsteen and Iron Maiden (shredding and twin-guitar harmonies, respectively), impeccable double bass thrash metal drumming, and the vocals of Helloween into one high-calorie metallic cocktail, you'd get Dragonforce. Hailing from London (do all prog metal bands come from Europe?), the quintet sticks to the game plan laid out on its first two releases, as evidenced by 2006's Inhuman Rampage. Admittedly, this sort of genre is certainly not for everyone — some would say it goes beyond parody — while some of the song titles sound like rejects from a high school battle of the bands contest ("Revolution Deathsquad," "Operation Ground and Pound," etc.). But for those who regard technique over tunefulness, Inhuman Rampage should be a worthy listen. And here's a challenge for budding prog metallists everywhere — it may be impossible to play your instrument as technically precise as these lads from London do on "Storming the Burning Fields." A fine soundtrack while playing your next level of World of Warcraft.

Why?

by U DontWanna

Why do you people bother writng horrible reveiws about aband you obviously hate? It's not worth wasting your time. I'll admit, DragonForce's songs do sound SIMILAR, not the same. If you would actually LISTEN to the whole album (and not just the intro you can listen to on Itunes) you'd hear the differences. This album was most likely made popular by GH3, but that's not the reason I like them. The insanely fast (but most likely sped up post production) guitars are impressive. The drums are a bit over used, but keep time in the songs, as they should. Bass is almost impossible to make out with all the guitars being played. And i will admit, the singer sometimes doesn't make sense, and just gets drowned out by the guitar at times. Still, this is one DragonForce album that will I will listen to for years. And for those of you who say i am a one metal band guy, i do listen to Metallica and Iron Maiden. And I still think these guys are the best.

This song is amazing, however Dragonforce as a whole is realy an extremely overrated band. EVERY SINGLE song they do sounds the same. This being the first song i heard by them, i therefor love it. Otherwise, their music just sounds repetitve. Oh, and their drummer makes my ears bleed. Cheers.
