Album Review

Pat Benatar's forgotten 1997 album, Innamorata, is an acoustic-heavy collection in keeping with the organic, acoustic trend popular in the '90s, yet still incorporates Benatar's trademark rock & roll soul. The songs on this set are not the traditional electric guitar fare — these songs are fleshed out with strings and acoustic guitars, yet they still manage to rock like Benatar's best. The album has its share of moody, bluesy songs, such as "Dirty Little Secrets" and "I Don't Want to Be Your Friend," as well as acoustic ballads, such as "Papa's Roses." But the best are the straight-ahead rockers like "At This Time," "River of Love" (which also possesses an irresistibly soulful groove), the catchy, radio-ready "Only You," and the amazing "Strawberry Wine." The album is mature, the music is soulful and gutsy, and Benatar's operatic voice is in fine form. This sadly overlooked set is a must for any self-respecting fan of one of rock & roll's true top-notch queens, and proves that this gal's artistry is right on track. ~ Jose F. Promis, Rovi

Innamorata

She is the Queen of Rock. This album, like all her albums, has a great mix of guitar rock and ballards. She is puts on an incredible live show.
My question is: Why is she not in the so call Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She has done as much as any woman in the world of rock, yet she is not in. Why?

Pat Benatar - Innamorata

As a Benatar fan from the beginning, i have always loved Pat & Spyder's music. My favorite album, however, is 1997's Innamorata (ok - with a shout out to "Go" - both largely unheard). Innamorata is a tremendously mature work that still allow Pat and Neil to rock out - witness "River of Love" - and is her best single album. Period. We saw them at House of Blues in Dallas in both 2007 and 2008, and were amazed at her vocal quality and range (especially in the 2008 concert!) and she can still belt them out. Neil is a phenomenal guitarist and perfect complement to Pat's tremendous vocal powers. Crank it up we will continue to play Innomorata - and Go - until the CD and MP3 players die out!

Inamorata

Love Pat for the Tropico album and was pleasantly surprised by True love. Inamorata was a big let down. I suppose you can see what is to come, but frankly this is a lost album that should have remained in outtakes. Not very good. I still love Pat, but, please..... Sucked in again......

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Pat Benatar's polished mainstream pop/rock made her one of the more popular female vocalists of the early '80s. Although she came on like an arena rocker with her power chords, tough sexuality, and powerful vocals, her music was straight pop/rock underneath all the bluster. Born Patricia Andrzejewski on January 10, 1953, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, the singer was raised in the nearby town of Lindenhurst on Long Island, NY. Benatar began singing regularly in the New York City area by the '70s, where...
