all grown up
This is the music I've been waiting to hear for years. The heart-rending calls of "please come home" on "Bring Me Your Sweetness" could be for anyone--yes a lover, but perhaps a long lost friend, an absent parent, a forgotten memory, a lost burst of creativity. And when Doncker sings "I need to change" on "Learn To Cry," well, who hasn't ever sung that to themselves? In other words, Tomas Doncker has written (and performed! listen to the range of his voice from growling to sweet falsetto, and to call his guitar work "tasty" is an understatement) a collection of lyrical funky songs that are deep, moving, and filled with musically and lyrically sophisticated levels of understanding and experience about the desire for communication and connection. A problem with iTunes, of course, is that I have no idea who the other musicians are, and Doncker has surrounded himself with some top-flight players. The arrangements and production are superb as well, featuring especially wonderful background vocals. In short, this is music from someone who's come out the other side and has tales to tell about it. You'll be happy you bought this album.
Tomas Doncker Is The Real Deal
After listening to this debut CD from Tomas Doncker, I realized how much I was missing "Real Music". By that, I mean with all of the programming that goes into most records these days, it was refreshing to hear music that reminds one of the day when musicians got in a room together and did sessions. Maybe an overdub or two here and there but the great classic hits of the day were churned out very quickly but, in a masterful way because of extraordinary musicians and producers who let the music speak for itself. This present-day CD captures that essence with it's soulfulness and spirit. And, Mr. Doncker's compositions as well as his vocals display an earthiness that is most welcomed in this day and age.
Soul Satisfaction
Inside Out is a sonic feast, capable of satisfying any taster's palette! These songs are testimonies of love and loss, of hope and healing, and are delivered with the depth and sincerity of a true artist/songwriter. I have had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Doncker perform live and he is the real deal. His guitar and vocal skills are that of a true master. I, like many, am happy to hear soul music returning to it's roots. Do yourself a favor and buy this CD.....you won't be disappointed
