Album Review
From the Barenaked Ladies to the Goo Goo Dolls to Toad the Wet Sprocket to the Rembrandts, Gavin MacKillop is a producer/engineer who has shown a fondness for the more melodic, hooky, tuneful bands in alternative pop/rock. An album that MacKillop produces or engineers won't necessarily fit that description, but there is a good possibility that it will — and the Miggs' second album, Insomnia, won't hurt MacKillop's reputation for embracing the melodic, hooky, tuneful side of alternative pop/rock. This is alternative pop/rock that has a lot of power pop and arena rock appeal — nothing abstract, dissonant, or angular takes place — and the Miggs have an attractive, easily likable sound that draws on alternative influences such as the Replacements, R.E.M., Live, and the abovementioned Goo Goo Dolls. In other words, the Miggs are very much the sort of band one would expect MacKillop to produce given his history. Nothing groundbreaking occurs on Insomnia, but the Northern Californians' material is solid, well constructed, accessible, and very easy to absorb. If Insomnia is mildly derivative, it certainly isn't derivative in a negative way — and while the Miggs won't win any awards for being the most innovative band of the 2000s, they deliver the goods when it comes to expressive lead vocals (which are provided by frontman/songwriter Don Miggs), quality, and craftsmanship. This is a memorable CD that both the Miggs and MacKillop should be glad to have on their résumés.

An Official Miggster!!
The San Francisco bay area is sprawling with new and emerging artists that are waiting for their moment to shine. For Miggs, InsOmnia is their answer. Their charasmatic lead singer, Don Miggs, is nothing less than amazing. One can feel the emotional eminating from each of his songs...your happy one minute, your contemplative the next. Mere words can not describe what one will feel when they listen to the 14 songs on this album. From the perfectly "Perfect" to the lyrically beautiful "Be"...everyone will see themselves in one of their songs.I personally can't choose a "favorite" as each holds a special spot for me. I love Rest, Be, Choices...I love them all. I can listen over and over and I will catch something new each time. Check out the next big thing from San Francisco...I can promise that this will be one of the best "Choices" you will have ever made! ;)
This Album Has It All
Close your eyes, sit back in a darkened room and listen to the amazing lyrical power of the album, "Insomnia." Believe me it will keep you awake and you will keep coming back for more wanting to hear each song again and again. Who would have thought that a band called Miggs could pull off a second album with such lyrical expression in each number. Don Miggs' staying power as a singer and songwriter is definitely evident in this album. His thoughts and cadence in the music will have you humming along and trying to match his musical expression as he craftily weaves his way through each number. This album is a must buy for any true connoisser of the pop/rock venue. Every song is fantastic and it is hard to chose just one standout but, "I Believe," my favorite song of the album, should be played in every sports venue as the anthem. I even has the song as my ringtone on my phone. Everyone needs to add Miggs to their repetoire of great listening music that you want to hear again and again. The sounds of the pop/rock band make the vocals of Miggs even more captivating. This album has it all.
this album does not put you to sleep!
Miggs is one of the most under-rated bands in the US. insOmnia proofs it. It starts with a great song - Suddendly Wonderful and heads into Perfect and Be. Again, the vocals and lyrics of Don Miggs are so strong, so emotional and spoken as seen through the eyes of a deep, humble and great artist. Superhero and Options set the beat, Rest brings you back to the strong vocals before I Believe and Choices wrap up this strong album.
