Album Review
After the pop-oriented smorgasboard of Blah Blah Blah, Iggy Pop teamed with producer Bill Laswell for the lackluster Instinct, a return to the pounding grind his early '80s albums, not the classic grime of The Stooges. In fact, Laswell allows Iggy's backing band, led by ex-Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones indulge their tendency to wallow in a heavy metallic thud, making Instinct his most tedious record.
Customer Reviews
All Underground, Proto, Cult Band Snobbery Aside
Contrary to what any pointy-headed pseudo-intellectuals my say, this record is a good one. If you are looking for Iggy and the Stooges or some 'proto-psychedelic-punk' prodigy stuff, then do not bother listening to this record. If you are looking for the Iggy Pop who was actually making a few dollars and who was cool enough to score some points on Blah-Blah-Blah with "Real Wild Child," then you might actually like this album. And, for Steve Jones fans, you will love the self-indulgent, heavy-metal sellout, late-1980s sound of the hard, driving, throbbing guitar riffs. In fact, the novelty of the Steve Jones-Iggy Pop collaboration is the best reason to buy this record. I wore out my tape when "Cold Metal" was actually a minor radio and MTV hit, and, when the I tunes store opened, I bought it again because I don't even try to use my tape deck any more.
Great under-rated
This one is an under-rated gem if there ever was one. It is basic, raw and the combo of Iggy and Steve Jones with Laswell producing is pretty cool. It's a rock record, unpretentious and catchy. Nuthin' wrong with it.
Unbelieveable Review!!
No. This is one of Iggy's best. Yes it's got a heavy metal tinge, but every friggin song ROCKS. Blast this one. Get tipsy play Easy Rider and jump around like Iggy does!
