iTunes Review

Listening to the 2009 remix of Bloc Party’s third studio album Intimacy, it becomes pretty evident the band recorded the 2008 album with the intention of leaving some room for a handful of their best DJ and producer friends to deconstruct the songs and reassemble them with dance floor magic. The party starts with a facelifted “Ares” that’s vastly different from the album cut — the Villains remix smoothes over the angularity of the original with driving beats, distorted tones and a bombastic bass. The Mogwai remix of “Biko” infuses layered guitar lines and atmospheric flutters of synth notes that play soothingly before allocated bursts of drum machines come in to recall the drum ‘n’ bass craze of the late-20th century. The John B Remix of “Trojan Horse” explodes with throbbing blips and beats to inadvertently approximate a battle between two old school video games, but it’s the Armand Van Helden remix of “Signs” that stands out like an arm wrestling match between Daft Punk and Justice with its wonky tones, electropunk abrasiveness and some kind of magical effect that makes the vocals sound submerged in the waters of Atlantis.

mediocre

I wish I would have taken the advice of some of the other reviews and just downloaded a few of the songs instead of the whole album. Talons and Signs are barely recognizable and are loaded with annoying sound effects that detract from the rhythm of the songs. The better songs balance out the bad ones but I'd say listen to each yourself and just buy the ones you like. I took it for granted that anything Bloc Party offered was going to measure up to the quality of their previous releases. Their sound has been steadily evolving and improving since their first EP. However, some of these remixes sound like generic raver cuts that were hurriedly put together.

Golden Remixes

wow. the "Silent Alarm" remixes were mostly a flop but these remixes...are jsut awesome. there are songs on ehre that are jsut pumping wit house and techno and others that prmote the loud silence of shoegaze. definetly a great colelction of remixes.

best five (in no particular order): "Signs (Armand Van Helden Remix)", "Biko (Mogwai Remix)", "Trojan Horse (John B Remix)", "Ion Square (Banjo or Freakout Remix)", "Ares (Villians Remix)".

much better than the previous remixed albulm

Intimacy is one of those albulms that was just begging to be remixed. The most electronic of all of Bloc Party's albulms sounds great when put through the creative touch of artists like Mogwai and Villains. Much, much better remixes here than on the remixed albulm of Silent Alarm.
