Album Review

This Swedish quartet plays retro heavy metal straight from 1980-1981: fast riffs; extremely high-pitched vocals; rumbling melodic basslines; and thwacking, high-energy drums. Anyone old enough to have heard bands like Angel Witch, Diamond Head, Rage, Exciter, and even very early Iron Maiden will immediately recognize the sounds on Into the Night. The question is, does Enforcer have anything to offer beyond a trip in the wayback machine? The answer to that is an emphatic "maybe." They've got energy and talent to spare — their songs have catchy melodies, memorable choruses, fluid guitar solos, and dynamics. There's even a churning instrumental for when vocalist Olof Wikstrand's piercing wail gets tiring. And it's easy to argue that metal, being one of rock's most formalist genres, doesn't require bands to bring anything genuinely new to the table. They just have to do what they do well, and they can be as retro as the Stray Cats — fans will headbang wildly nonetheless. So taken at face value, and not as some kind of ironic joke at the expense of early-'80s metal (which they're clearly not), yeah, Enforcer kinda kill it. And while it's easy to hope young listeners will encounter their work and be tempted to investigate the bands that pioneered this sound decades earlier, Into the Night stands on its own.

who cares if it sounds old

This is not bad at all, who cares if it sounds old? the songs arent that band and the guitar is good, vocals arent that bad either... go listen to the jonas brothers cause thats probably all you do!!

Enforcer rocks!!

This album is awesome! To desribe their style... its like Thrash Metal married Hair Metal, and trust me its is tasty. These guys have a tremendous amount of tallent. I would not be supprised if they are the next big thing in Metal because all of the elements are there: shredding guitars, a rock solid rhythm section, and a lead singer with a voice from hell! Don't listen to the naysayers Enforcer rocks in epic proportions!!!

Its called speed metal guys

Its a little known form of metal started by bands like Exciter and Warrant(Ger). Anyone who can't hear the real metal glory in this should go back to spinning their Boris, and The Sword records. This is REAL metal for Real metalheads.

Biography

Formed: Sweden

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '00s, '10s

While the rest of the metal world was busy trying to reinvent the wheel, Sweden’s Enforcer decided to take a different approach. Rather than worrying about the future, the band embraced heavy metal’s past, and in 2004 the band formed to bring speed metal back to the world. The band, consisting of Olaf and Jonas Wikstand, Adam Zaars, Joseph Tholl, and Tobias Linkvist, channels the spirits of old-school speed metal bands like Venom and Anvil, paying homage to the brash aggression of those metal pioneers...
