Album Review
Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent d'Arby is a strong debut by this young singer, who wrote virtually every note, played a multitude of instruments, and claimed that this was the most important album since the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper. Hits included "If You Let Me Stay," "Dance Little Sister," "Sign Your Name," and the number one "Wishing Well." His first album is a curious mixture of old and new styles. Although the production is quite modern, d'Arby shows his roots in the work of older artists, borrowing a page or two from Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder, while James Brown appears to have had the strongest influence on d'Arby's stage presence.

Sananda Maitreya aka Terence Trent D'Arby
Just a heads up that D'Arby changed his name to Sananda Maitreya and is still performing. Google him or check him out on YouTube. He's still an awesome singer/performer and still going strong!
A true vocal masterpeice from a decade filled with fluff
God... I can still remember the first time I heard D'Arby's powerful, truly soulful voice while listening to a friends "walkman" in the back of my freshman English class in '88. I remember thinking then that this guy was so much more talented than his contemporaries. At the time it seemed that suburban teens were basically relegated to top 40 pop artists which rarely expressed the raw emotion that almost every song on this album handily acheives. His music stands apart as meainingful in a time of fluff and gaudy image. Sadly, ahead of his time. I can't wait for my wife to hear this. She's going to flip out! What happened to you TTD?
Finally!
I've been looking for this cd for years! I hated to see Terence drop off the music scene as he did. The first album was just awesome, everything is enjoyable though I have a special place in my heart for 'Sign Your Name'. Just reminds me that all singing talent does not reside in the USA.
