iTunes Review

Just as Jim Morrison defined the Doors, Michael Hutchence lent INXS its artistic identity from its inception until his tragic death in 1997. By turns brash, subversive and near-messianic, he led the group through a series of funk-drenched, rock-rooted hits that still stir the body and tease the mind. "The Greatest Hits" collects most of the Australian combo’s best-known tunes in one concise package, along with a few key album cuts and some previously-unreleased songs. Their lean, throbbing sound is defined by the pummeling guitars of Tim Farriss and Kirk Pengilly and the crisp, R&B-influenced drumming of Jon Farriss. Hutchence’s swaggering vocals infuse tunes like “Original Sin,” “Devil Inside” and “Suicide Blonde” with an inescapable mood of sensuality and danger. The sweat-raising “New Sensation” and “Deliver Me” transcend mere dance-floor fare, while “Shine Like it Does” reveals unexpected gospel influences and “Heaven Sent” rocks with urgency. The tracks gathered on The Greatest Hits still carry a potent kick.

A Great Overview of INXS's Pop Career

As an introduction album to INXS, “The Greatest Hits” serves its purpose very well. Covering essentially all the singles and popular songs, this album provides a general outline of what INXS was about - incorporating several genres of music into a Pop/Rock sound. As a fan of INXS, there is much more to the band than one CD can supply, but I feel that this CD is great at what it has. The final two songs, not found on any other INXS release, are great representations of the 90's INXS with their nearly electronic beats and emotional lyrics. While INXS did continue creating music after this albums release, nothing released is particularly noteworthy other than "Full Moon, Dirty Hearts" 'Please (You Got That...)' and "Elegantly Wasted's" title track.

The Perfect Album for an INXS fan

A great album for a die hard fan or a new fan. Because of the show on TV I am sure that INXS will generate a new fan base and this will be a great album to get to know the old INXS as the new band with the new lead is almost like the original. Cannot wait for the new album especially if the new song Dirty Vegas is anything like it.

INXS

I have never been possessed to write a review before but I am a child of the 80's and of course heard of INXS and liked their songs when I heard them on the radio as far as the hits are concerned. However, I was going to buy a couple songs from this greatest hits album and was quite blown away by all the great songs - nostalgia could be a factor but damn, I couldn't pick a few - I had to have the whole thing. I missed them and didn't even know it, thanks itunes.

Biography

Formed: 1977 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australi

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

INXS hailed from the pubs of Australia, which is part of the reason the band never comfortably fit in with new wave. Even when they branched out into synth pop on their early recordings, they were underpinned by a hard, Stonesy beat and lead singer Michael Hutchence's Jagger-esque strut. Ultimately, these were the very things that made INXS into international superstars in the late '80s. By that time, the group had harnessed its hard rock, dance, and new wave influences into a sleek, stylish groove...
