Album Review

Francis & the Lights' 2010 debut album, It'll Be Better, is a progressive, electronic, and soul-inflected affair that harks back to both adult-contemporary and new wave recordings of the '80s. In that sense, the band will certainly draw favorable comparisons to such icons of the era as Peter Gabriel and David Bowie. To these ends, the uplifting title track and the moody ballad "Get in the Car" centered around lead singer Francis Farewell Starlight's burnished, throaty croon certainly hem closely to Gabriel's literate and atmospherically melodic palette. Elsewhere, Francis & the Lights delve into a Prince-esque electronic funk vibe on "For Days" and mix singer/songwriter introspection and prog rock on "Darling, It's Alright." This is a hearfelt, creative, and deeply inspired album that should appeal to fans of intelligent pop music.

Great Album and Band

Francis and the Lights is a great band. Their music combines the best parts of many genres and has a futuristic sound. This band is definitely one to keep an eye on, because their fan base is exceedingly growing. Their live shows are amazing, and recently they will be featured on Drake's "Away from Home" tour, as well as many other solo concerts. Francis and the lights is a great band, check them out and support them.

Very intriguing

To me, the lead singer sounds like the modern-day Peter Gabriel, and so, the whole album oddly sounds like a new release by Peter Gabriel. Some of the tracks are sort of adult alternative; some are indie-folk; and a few are kind of R&B. My FAVORITE track by far is "For Days". If Peter Gabriel and Morris Day collaborated back in the day, "For Days" would have been the groovy result. I can listen to it over and over.

Great!

I went and saw them play before MGMT this year at the Greek. Didn't expect much, but wow was I wrong. The lead singer had the audience wrapped in his energy. A lot of there songs do sound a little alike, but they still are very good. I would pay to see them live again and suggest that anyone reading this should see them live.
