Peter Hook could've done better...

While having enjoyed Joy Division, New Order and both of Peter Hook's previous side projects Revenge and Monaco - I had high expectations for this one. Boy was I let down. The music here sounds nothing like anything related to New Order, and while that may be refreshing to some, to me it was not. There are a couple good tracks here, but as a whole, this album sounds much like generic British guitar pop along the lines of Oasis or Blur. I'd highly recommend previewing all tracks before you purchase the whole album.

Get the Instrumental Tracks ONLY!

Oddly enough, the instrumental tracks are quite good. I'm glad they made a decision to release them separately. OTOH, there may be a very good reason why they did this. The tracks with vocals are incredibly weak. Don't know why they ever picked this guy for the vocals. Amazingly weak. No presence. In most of the tracks the vocals really take away from the power of the song or are actually disturbing and distracting. Too bad most of Andy Rourke's contributions were edited out. I imagine they would have added another nice layer to these tracks.

Best advice is to play the tracks here first BEFORE you order. Makes more sense to get the tracks you like rather than the whole album.

By the time the group’s debut EP (Two Worlds Collide) arrived, Rourke had amicably parted ways with the group and relocated to New York City, and the band had added vocalist Gary Briggs to the...
