Great EP
On PTMs website it said...“It’s Complicated Being A Wizard” is a seamless 46 minute journey. 23 minutes through the first time and then around again, like a ethereal dream state which intertwines around itself. Repetition is important to the effectiveness of affirmation. That can come off as pretentious but once you have a listen you realize that this band is doing exactly what we want from our artists, moving boundaries and trying new things. Especially on an EP! It is still early in their career but comparisons to Mars Volta, TV On The Radio, Built To Spill, Flaming Lips, Mewithoutyou, My Morning Jacket, etc. can't be far off. Definitely don't buy as singles. Buy as an album it is a much better deal!
An Electronic Masterpiece
There is just something about Portugal.The Man. It definitly has something to do with Gourley's voice and the mood the music creates. This EP is a great electronica/ambient/soul piece of art. It is different from the previous CD and EP by them, using mostly keyboards and electronic beats. If you're into Portugal you'll love it. If you're not then you're missing out on, in my opinion, the most exciting band on the scene right now.
it's complicated being a hipster.
To simplify this ep one should take note that it is mearly a single 23 minute song. Tracks 2-10 are the single song broken into sections. That being said, it is well worth the money to buy the whole album. For Portugal. The Man fans of the past, this is a another step closer to acts like Blonde Redhead and a step away from the progressive agression of yester year for the band. For Portugal. The Man, this is a groovy step to make.
