Album Review

The Reverend Horton Heat's signature sound pitches a clear, tony rockabilly guitar line (see "Rock the Joint") against a greasy, fuzzed-out counterpart and gutbucket rhythm ("Slow"). Take off on the "Big Red Rocket of Love"'s full-throttle punkabilly, the title track's jumpin' jive rave-up broadcast live from purgatory, or the cool finger-snapping rap on fame "That's Showbiz." "Slingshot" and "Forbidden Jungle" update '50s-style instrumental rock at warp speed. "Generation Why" and "Spell on Me" border on comic-book speed punk metal.

Customer Reviews

Yes, I'll have another one...

Yet another awesome cd by the Rev. Toe-tappin' good music. It's obvious that the Rev is maturing in their music. We all gotta give a shout out to Jimbo. A really enjoyable cd for Rev lovers.

Cowboy Love

This album is alot of fun.10 years before Brokeback Mountain the song Cowboy Love puts a different perspective on the subject. Its Martini Time,Generation Why,and Crooked Cigarette are my favorites songs on this cd.if you are tired of top 40 crap check out the Rev.

TESTIFY!!!

I saw these guys open for the Butthole Surfers back when I was in high school and skipped school the next day just so I could go buy whatever albums I could find of these geniuses. This is still my favorite album of theres, mostly due to "Generation Why", "Big Red Rocket" and "Crooked Ciggarette". I've seen them half a dozen times since and it is nothing short of the wildest thing you've ever seen. I always bring new people to the shows and every single one of them swears it was one of the best concerts they've ever been to, even if they have no idea who the band is. Perfect album!

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

The Reverend Horton Heat is perhaps the most popular psychobilly artist of all time, his recognition only rivaled only by the esteem generated by the genre's founders, the Cramps. The Reverend (as both the three-man band and its guitar-playing frontman were known) built a strong cult following during the '90s through constant touring, manic showmanship, and a twisted sense of humor. The latter was nothing new in the world of psychobilly, of course, and Heat's music certainly kept the trashy aesthetic...
