Ives and Barber: String Quartets
For aficionadoes of Ives and Barber, this is a must-have album featuring some of the finest works of these composers. The Emerson Quartet imbues every note with precision, yet without sacrificing emotional power and musicality. The bite, drive and wit of the Ives works are fully present, and the Barber, with its almost too-familiar "Adagio," is played both powerfully and sensitively. For those who are unfamiliar with the "Adagio" in this original form, will receive a wonderful gift in that every voice is clearly spoken and clearly heard. The Emerson Quartet offers impeccable, full-throated virtuosity throughout this splendid album.
