iTunes Review
Van Halen’s 1978 self-titled debut album is one of those rare debut albums — think The Doors, Jimi Hendrix’s Are You Experienced, Ramones — that simply announces itself. Eddie Van Halen’s lightning-fast guitar leads are everywhere (especially the under two-minute instrumental explosion of “Eruption”), Michael Anthony’s swinging yet thunderous bass matches up perfectly with drummer Alex Van Halen’s quirky sense of time, and singer David Lee Roth is simply on fire from the onset. “Runnin’ With the Devil” sets the tone. Roth screeches, cajoles and croons with the assurance of a veteran pitchman hawking his product to any sucker who dares to pause. He introduces Van Halen’s guitar solos with genuine anticipatory glee. Add a rambunctious cover of the Kinks’ “You Really Got Me,” the inescapably catchy chorus of “Jamie’s Cryin’,” the crash and burn dynamic of “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love,” and the bluesy yawp of “Ice Cream Man” and there isn’t anything these four men can’t touch and turn into pure Van Halen. For that, they have made one of the all-time finest party albums.

What A Fantastic Debut
by BigGunDownThereMost underrated band ever. They deserve way more credit than Rolling Stone give them. They redefined how to play rock guitar and not to mention were totally badass at the same time. Here's the break down.
Runnin' with the Devil 10/10 - What a thunderous debut, each band member shows off how good they are and they fuse perfectly. They play so well together on their first song ever than most bands do after 20 records.
Eruption 7/10 - This song was awesome when I heard it, but its novelty has worn off since we've heard Eddie play solos like it constantly.
You Really Got Me 8/10 - I actually like this song a lot, but it is a cover of song that's pretty tired by now. Maybe it's just been overplayed since the 60's (and butchered on American Idol).
Ain't Talkin' Bout Love 10/10 - One of Van Halen's finest. Probably my favorite of Eddie's guitar performances, and David just clicks on the vocals.
I'm the One 7/10 - This one is okay cut, not as memorable as the others.
Jamie's Cryin' 8/10 - Even though Alex Van Halen said he disliked it, its a pretty good one. The whoa, whoa part gets kind of annoying though.
Atomic Punk 9/10 - Awesome cut, name says it all.
Feel Your Love Tonight 9/10 - Another great follow up.
Little Dreamer 7/10 - I never really cared for the original version.
On Fire - 9/10 Thunderous ending to the album. Love the drum part.
