iTunes Review
Somehow Jason Mraz always pulls off the impossible. He can wax libidinous without seeming creepy, he can rap without sounding like a Caucasian mall rat, he can scat sing like a jazzman, and he can record a live album that truly represents what a powerhouse of a performer he is face-to-face. Mraz's more fervent fans already know that Live & Acoustic is a repackaging of 2001's Live At Java Joe's which was recorded in the Oceanside, California coffeehouse where he was a local Thursday Night favorite. Although these songs are stripped down to guitar and percussion (the latter courtesy of Toca Rivera), the opening song "Running" reveals how well Mraz also plays the microphone — knowing when to get within kissing closeness for the softer parts and when to back away to open up his vocal chords and let his soulful wail fill the room. There's a campfire intimacy here that gives these musings a life of their own. "Dream Life Of Rand McNally" showcases the perfectly close live harmonies between Mraz and Rivera, and the funny stage banter could never be duplicated in a studio.
Customer Reviews
Mraz Never Fails to Impress
After seeing that I had most of the songs on this album from various other Mraz albums, I was hesitent to buy this one. I looked at the reviews, and every single person made this album out to be amazing. I made the decision to purchase it. I DON'T REGRET IT. Hearing a song on a live album (like Selections for Friends) is amazing, and I highly reccommend them. But hearing them on a live ACOUSTIC album, is 1,000,000 times better. I just spent a lazy sunday morning listening to this entire album, and it was among the most relaxing mornings of my life. This album is a MUST BUY. But then again, so is EVERYTHING else that Jason Mraz has ever done. He is the only musician that I have ever heard whose voice sounds better when it is live than in the studio. That is the mark of a true musician
For the record,
this album is called "Live at Java Joe's" and was released all the way back in 2001 before he was with Atlantic. At least it used to be. nevertheless this is one of Jason's best works (if not the best) and really showcases his first class live performance abilities.
Great Live Album!!!!
I am actually very suprised that this album has finally been posted on iTunes. This is a really great album by Jason Mraz. It just him and a guitar and in his comfort zone, a coffee house. Here are some of my favorite tracks on the album: 1,000 Things Unfold Halfway Home Dream Life of Rand McNally
