iTunes Review

Jeffrey Carter Albrecht was a shining star of the Dallas music scene, named Musician of the Year and Best Songwriter by the Dallas Observer in 2003. He played guitar and keyboards with artists like Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians and Charlie Sexton, and stayed close to the local scenes with his own bands, Sparrows and Sorta. The prolific, much respected artist died in a tragic shooting in 2007 (his story turned drew attention to warnings about a certain prescription drug used for smoking cessation), and this collection of tunes — most of which were finished at the time of his death — stands as a solid, moving farewell. Albrecht’s music is personal, introspective and sometimes humorous, and fans of T-Bone Burnett or James McMurtry will find much to appreciate here. For starters, try the heartache-filled “Godot,” the darkly satirical “Jesus Light,” or the drunk-on-love ballad “Rivers Into Rum” (“My way was filled with turpentine/but now it’s overflowing with wine, honey, wine...”). Jesus Is Alive … is an extraordinary gift to any Carter Albrecht fan.

New Soundtrack for your Life

In addition to the music and the soul of the album, the lyrics show me something every time I listen. “Jesus Light” describing a night light with its “heart amputated by the halogen blade” is beautiful and the light waking him “…at the crack of two” gives the listener the tiniest peek at Carter. The beginning lines of Rome take on a meaning to me that I know he didn’t intend us to have in 2009. The title track paints a picture and story filled with notes and multiple meaning showing the depth of his soul. I can hear the love and pain that went into this album. This album is one that can easily be on the soundtrack to your life. You should buy it.

His Greatest Work

It was worth the wait to hear his powerful songs. Carter is missed by everyone, but lives on in his music and his foundation. I will miss the excitement of hearing a new Albrecht original or looking for ya on the late night talk shows. Everyone that did not know him need only listen to these songs to hear his soulful voice and lyrics. This one is a must have!

Thanks 'Unfair Park' for bringing this to my attention!

Haven't listened all the way through, very much enjoyed what I've heard thus far and agree with the above review regarding the lyrics. Support local music Dallas/Fort Worth folks!!
