Album Review
As Brian Setzer's second Christmas record in three years — apparently his Surfdog labelmate Gary Hoey has been rubbing off on him — it should come as no great surprise that Dig That Crazy Christmas sounds a little bit familiar. It follows the same form as 2002's Boogie Woogie Christmas, as Setzer blasts through several familiar carols, tosses in a handful of obscure rockers and blues numbers, does a couple of instrumentals, and throws it all into a Louis Prima blender so it comes out sounding a bit like Doc Severinsen's Tonight Show band with tattoos. While that's neither fresh nor surprising, it isn't bad. At times, it's a little more shuck-and-jive than flat-out jive, but the band rocks, Setzer's playing is energetic (even if his voice is a little rough), and it certainly has quite a bit more flair than the series of Ho! Ho! Hoey! holiday records. And all that means is that rockabilly cats and kittens with a high tolerance, or even love, for Atomic Age kitsch who are looking for a new collection of relatively rocking seasonal tunes should find this right up their alley. Customer Reviews
The BSO rocks!!!!!!
I saw these guys, at the Orpheum Theater in Boston, on the day after Thanksgiving 2007. From start to snowflake-y finish this band just flat out rocked. This was their first Boston show in years; and I hope it's not their last... The price of this CD is an absolute bargain (half the price of buying the songs a-la-carte) and is completely worth it. Better yet... treat yourself to the ticket and see them in person, after seeing them play live, you'll want all of their albums...
Too Much fun--as good as the first bite of holiday pie
Brian has up the dose of swing and swagger to this collection of Christmas tracks. More "rockabilly" then the previous Christmas album. Something you and your kids will enjoy. I rely on this album to break up the monotony of mall music tracks and radio version of the classics. This album has a ton of energy--no such thing as the Christmas blues in this batch. The Dixieland breakout in Hey Santa is fantastic. This album has originals Christmas songs--which I normally pass on but these are a lot of fun and as enjoyable as the classics. Good Good Stuff Buy this before you buy a compilation album where they slam together 12 artist with 12 different styles--all over singing the classics like they were on star search. Have a great holiday.
Fun and Entertaining
This is a fun upbeat Christmas album done only as Brian Setzer and his orchestra/band can do. Great music for Christmas parties and other festive occassions.
