iTunes Review
Joe Walsh tried all sorts of roles over the course of his career — acoustic balladeer, operatic rocker, even new-wave weirdo — but he will always be best loved for his '70s hard rock songs, the best of which are collected in this concise 10-song collection. The five James Gang songs included here are about as good as hard rock gets. Like vintage Harley Davidsons, these songs still putt like mean machines even after all these decades. The two Barnstorm songs emphasize the transitional period in Walsh’s early career — between the biker rock of James Gang and the layered productions of his solo albums. The latter category is defined by “Meadows” and “Help Me Thru the Night,” ambitious productions with bittersweet undertones. Of course, it all culminates on “Rocky Mountain Way” the penultimate spacey stoner blues anthem. If Walsh had died in 1974 his reputation as a rock giant would have been secured on the basis of these songs alone.

Where's the rest?
The absence of "Life's Been Good" and "All Night Long" are two of many baffling omissions in the Apple Music Store. Despite the many terrific songs on this album (and in others available for download) these eleven songs do not constitute Joe Walsh's greatest hits. I realize it's impossible to provide everything, but unless some copyright protection has prevented the posting of these songs, someone is making some pretty poor decisions.
And one more omission ...
"A Life of Illusion" - It would be helpful for Apple to add to the "partial album" designation by giving us the reason why some songs were omitted. I can't find this song anywhere in the Music Store, at least not the versions by Joe or by the Foo Fighters.
What the?
How can you leave off "Life's Been Good"? Which after listening to tonight, I'm ranking in my top 20 "if I were stranded on an island" tunes, along with "Across the Universe" and 18 others. And a native girl from the island. My guess is that you have to head over to Eagles country in order to get this tune. Long live Joe Walsh!
