Some Non-Original Tracks

I-Tunes seems to be undermining Joni by not taking the original tracks. Some here sound original (Cactus Tree, Song to A Seagull) but other do not (Sisotowbell Lane) and appears to studio records from a somewhat later era. Very disappointing for a Joni fan of the original cuts. I-Tunes should get these right or at least let us know which are which. 4 stars with a penalty for I-Tunes, not for Joni who is always sublime.

THE TITLE IS "SONG TO A SEAGULL"

and it is an incredible set of beautifully poetic songs that began a phenomenal journey. You instanly feel a cool northern breeze and are lulled by magical acoustic guitar, then, you hear her. Ethereal yet soulful. Perfect phrasing. Intelligently written yet simple lyrics. The whole experience is breath taking. It resonates just as much today as when I first heard it twenty years ago, when it was already over twenty years old. To me, this is amongst the best popular music ever recorded, yet it just hints at the depth to come. An astonishing debut.

Withstands the test of time

This album is still a favorite of mine 41 years after I first was mesmerized by Cactus Tree. People will be listening at the turn of the next century. It's simply that pure and that good.

Uncompromising and iconoclastic, Mitchell confounded expectations at every turn; restlessly innovative, her music evolved from deeply personal folk stylings into pop, jazz, avant-garde, and even world music, presaging the multicultural experimentation of the 1980s and 1990s by over a decade. Fiercely independent, her work steadfastly resisted the whims of both mainstream...
