Album Review
Popular CCM quartet Avalon doesn't disappoint with their first offering for the holiday season. A collection of ten songs celebrating Christmas, Joy leaves the listener feeling joyful, uplifted, energized yet reverent about the reason for the season. The opening and title song, a jazzed-up fantasy on "Joy to the World," gets the toes tapping and the mood continues until the slightly more reflective third track "Don't Save It All for Christmas Day." Choirs were rounded up for background vocal support on several tracks, the most outstanding of which is "Good News" during which the basses are wonderfully strong and mesmerizing. The quartet also covers a handful of songs written or made famous by other artists and, again, no disappointment in their performance on all. One interesting note: The album design has a definite retro feel, à la '60s and '70s, yet the music is clearly recorded in 2000, a fun juxtaposition. ONE OF THE BEST CHRISTMAS ALBUMS
Avalon's Christmas CD is EXCELLENT! If I could give it 10 stars I would, the only thing that is disappointing... There only did 10 songs :) One of the BEST Christmas CDs in Christian music, and in Holiday music!! I recommend it to anyone who is a Christmas music fan like me :)
Avalon's Christmas
Such a great Christmas album! It's a perfect mix of upbeat songs and harmony driven vocals. The only song missing is Oh Holy Night.
Classic
The 2 or 3 mediocre songs on Joy are more than made up for by the excellence of the rest of the album, particularly Joy (To the World), We Are the Reason, Light a Candle, and Jesus Born on this Day. My only other complaint is it is rather short at only ten sons, but the quality also makes up for the length issue.
