Fresh New Liturgical Album!!!

John took a bold and beautiful step with this album to compose music specifically for the liturgical setting. Music that congregations can sing, along with some great choral arranging! He certainly presents FRESH new approaches to Lenten and Easter themed music. I think Track 2 - Return to God is perfect as a Lenten gathering song which seamlessly leads into a Kyrie, very beautiful! Also love track 4 - Whatever You Do, a new take on an old classic! Very touched by Feed My Lambs #`13 - great message sung with his golden voice and passion for the Lord! John's gift is certainly his ability to bridge inspiring music from the Sunday celebration of Mass through the everyday!!!

Love it!

I first heard about him through my church. He is an amazing singer/songwriter!! Yay!! I'm so happy to be the first review!! So many people have really connected to his songs! Buy it!!

The title track is good. The rest? Not so much.

I had previously written about the problems with track#14--"Go Spread the Message", about its nearly identitcal lyrics to Don Francisco's He's Alive. Since then, the track has since been pulled, while World Library Press has been working overtime to secure permissions and pay royalties, which was somehow overlooked upon the time of printing the liner notes. Kudos to them. So let's be fair to the rest of this album, which is a concept album that celebrates Lent, Holy Week, and then Easter. This makes for an odd listening experience, because I will not want to hear the album in its entirity during any season; even the opening track, No Greater Love, uses the term "Alleluia" in the song, which does not make it appropriate for Lent. Then there's the originals, Psalm reponses, and cover songs that lead up to the title track... which heavily employ the use of syncopated 90's style drums and R&B tones. Not Lenten. But then Joy Beyond Our Dreams comes on, and it's... wow. Incredible. Very powerful stuff. What follows is more or less inferior songs compared to the title track. Songs I've more or less heard before, on other albums, from other artists. Nothing really stood out. There's more to write about, but let's just say, I'm very happy that steps are being taken to remedy the use of the final song, with proper royalties being issued and credit being given where credit is due. I overreacted back in January, but I'm pleased with the follow-up.
