iTunes Review
No Doubt’s breakthrough, Tragic Kingdom, is best remembered for two key singles: “Just a Girl,” a hopping third-wave feminist anthem, and “Don’t Speak,” a Madonna-esque ballad about residual band tension (singer Gwen Stefani and bassist Tony Kamal were once an item). Dig further and you might be surprised. Titled as a wry nod to the double-edged nature of the band’s Southern California upbringing, the album is virtually kaleidoscopic in its run at various pop conventions. “Hey You” is a pastiche of Revolver/Sgt. Pepper-era Beatles; “You Can Do It” owes a lot to Parliament’s “Flashlight.” And the bouncy horns on “The Climb” eventually morph into a knowing evocation of circus-like sound. The band would grow even more adventurous in toying with its ska-pop roots, but this is a fine start down that road.

Have to say, Gwen
by Fan of the Porsche 911Gwen Stefani's really only good when she's part of No Doubt and singing ska. She's just so much better in this album than in her solo albums. I wish there was more of this.
Worthy Singles
by John PaulThe review up top might be right about the heritage of those three other songs that weren't hits, but it doesn't even mention the really good songs, in my opinion, such as Spiderwebs, Excuse Me, Happy Now?, Sixteen, and Sunday Morning. I rocked out to those in 5th grade, and they still get me going!
was first introduced to this album when it came out, courtesy of my cousins
by gucci ghettoand i thank them everytime i visit them. my god, i love every single song on this album. i know the words to half the songs, and the second half i know some of the lyrics. the sound they had in this album was phenomenal(sp?). i saw their summer tour andi was happy i did cuz i heard my favorite songs played by them (spiderwebs, dont speak, different people, end it on this, sunday morning, just a girl and excuse me mr.) i really hope that they go back to sounding like this for their new album. i dont care what anyone says, tragic kingdom is the best album ever.
