Courageous New Music
Alex Kajumulo, the former soccer-star turned entertainer from Tanzania, Africa, has said there are two basic themes in his music: love, and social justice. So he has created a two-album dual release, Searching for Love of love songs, and Justice For Mankind, for social justice issues. Justice for Mankind is a series of songs told from the viewpoint of Alex the Bushman (Alex was born and raised in a clan of bushmen in Tanzania) who has entered into the modern world, travelled extensively, met many people and seen many things. The songs work on many levels: they have infectious, danceable, fun grooves. But for the discerning listener paying attention, the social messages in the songs are uncompromising. He has definite views on human rights and justice, and this album is dedicated to getting the message out. He doesn't shy from tackling tough social issues in the songs, and he does it in a musically powerful way. So that's why I give it five stars.
