Album Review

Whenever John Zorn is involved with a project, you know that conventionality automatically goes out the window. And Buckethead's 2005 release, Kaleidoscalp, is no different. Issued on Zorn's Tzadik label (with Zorn serving as "executive producer" of the album), Kaleidoscalp manages to combine both artists' eccentric trademarks — Buckethead's penchant for otherworldly guitar playing and Zorn's fondness for unpredictability and experimentalism. Both universes collide on such tracks as "Stun Pike and the Jack in the Box Head," "The Last Ride of the Bozomobile," and especially the brief "The Sticker on Hallucinogens." Kaleidoscalp is sure to please admirers of two of the most unconventional and unusual musical artists of the early 21st century.

Where Are The Rest of His Songs

This is great, but iTunes is missing some key Buckethead songs like Final Wars, Pepper's Ghost, Welcome To Buckethead Land, Carpal Tunnel Slug, Vitreous Humor, Magua's Scalp, Soothsayer and more. I know Jordan was made just for Gh2, but that would be awesome if iTunes got that. Rate this review helpful if you agree.

A Masterpiece

I've been a huge Buckethead fan forever now, and this album basically sums up most of his guitar style. It has the classic creepiness with songs like "Frankenseuss Laboritories" and "Citadel" along with the melodic "She Sells Sea Shells By The Slaughterhouse". Kaleidoscalp is an awesome album for anybody that is into Buckethead.

Mind Jolting (Apply Electrode to your Cranium)

Buckethead owns. Wish ITunes had more of him.

Biography

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Buckethead is one of the most bizarre and enigmatic figures in American underground and experimental music since Parliament-Funkadelic birthed their bevy of cosmic characters in the mid-'70s. An accomplished multi-instrumentalist best known for his virtuosic command of the electric guitar, Buckethead is one of the instrument's most recognizable contemporary innovators, his rapid-fire riffing, near-robotic fretwork, and idiosyncratic lead lines combining elements of Yngwie Malmsteen, Adrian Belew,...
