Album Review

While AKB48 release a large number of singles, the method of choosing those comes from their regular shows in the Akihabara district of Tokyo. The most popular performances on-stage become single releases, and the singles in turn get compiled into full-length albums. Kamikyoku Tachi collects singles from 2008 to 2010, displaying the group in all its 48-member glory. The set acts as something of a best-of, but doesn't assemble its tracks from any preceding major full-length release. Instead, what appears is a set of A-sides and a handful of more interesting B-sides. The music delivers very little outside of the hyper-stereotypical girl group sound. These are idol singers en masse, and the result is a somewhat simplified sound, arranged to allow as much chorus singing as possible. The individuals may step out for small solo runs, but they quickly hand off to one another and fall into a chorus again at each opportunity. Fans of the group should be thrilled to have the singles collected here, but those outside of AKB48's existing fan base will likely only have their stereotypes of J-pop confirmed by hearing this.

YAY!

OH MY GOSH. AKB48 is FINALLY on itunes! THANK YOU <3 :)

A great compilation album

I have most of these tracks already from buying singles. However, I still bought this since it makes it really convenient to have a lot of great tracks in one album. I only wish that it had Dear My Teacher. To those who have never heared AKB48 this is a great album to start you off with.

Need more songs

I am sooo happy that itunes finally puts AKB48 on itunes but could you guys put the song Baby! Baby! Baby! and Heavy rotation on.

AKB48 are an all-female Japanese theater troupe/musical unit created by the famous producer Akimoto Yasushi. "AKB" is short for Akihabara, a Tokyo district where the group gives daily performances in its own theater, and 48 is supposed to point out the number of members in this populous teen squad, although it's more of an approximation. Yasushi established AKB48 in 2005 by holding an audition attended by 8,000 participants, who were filtered down to 20 girls; the winners debuted on-stage in 2005...
