Great New Music From Genre-defying Band

"Once You’re There" documents the band in all its live energy with plenty of studio and production wizardry to tickle the ears—produced by Charlie Peacock (Switchfoot, Love Press Ex-Curio) and Tiny Universe keyboardist, David Veith. This is the first studio recording from this infectious funk machine since The Bridge in 2002. The music is a steaming pot of influences from ‘60s style “Blue Note” horn lines to Sly Stone funk to current electronica flavors. The songs include: Bag of Funk, Once You’re There, Matador, Everything, and A System About To Be Crushed (featuring spoken word/hip hop artist Alfred Howard). "Once You’re There" proves again that Karl Denson is master collaborator, improviser, and musical architect of a jazz/funk/rock hybrid that defies description, invites movement, and ultimately makes true believers out of all that hear it. A winner for KDTU fans!

New EP is okay

The groove is there, but I prefer Denson's live sound, especially after the Bridge album, which is also prefered. This EP has far too much of an electronica/techno sound, and an overly produced vibe, but that won't prevent me from buying it or seeing Denson live again (as I have 6 times). I prefer the live version of Bag of Funk with that great opening horn line vs. this version, but I still dig this new EP and respect the band for paving this new ground and exploring all musical possibilities. Keep that groove goin KDTU!

A different departure

Karl and his band seem to have taken a fresh new approach on this E.P. I think it sounds great. I can't wait to see them live.
