Great EP by a talented (and nice!) guy
H3rwig Maurer is a pretty cool guy with talent to spare. He's a musician, producer (as Smack3000), composer, sound editor for films (including The Passion of the Christ, Apocalypto, and K-PAX, as well as providing scores for Hate Crime, Zen & Zero and episodes of C.S.I. among scores of others), graphic designer and photographer -- and he's probably got more things brewing that I don't even know about. One of his first bands that got some notoriety was the Mankind Liberation Front, with Ran Pink (and later with Ran's brother Tal), who had one -- unfortunately unreleased outside of promo copies -- self-titled album on RCA, and a followup, Automind, on Reality Entertainment. H3rwig's new musical project is New World Revolution, and his new record is outstanding. It's a bit more Rocker, Heavier than the MLF stuff -- you won't confuse the two projects, except that they're both really good. It's sad that the MLF records are cult items -- hopefully NWR won't suffer the same fate and will break out as big as it deserves to be (which is pretty dang big). Pick this up immediately if you like good music. If you don't like good music, well, pick it up anyway -- it'll probably convert you.
New favorite !
Seldom does an album get me as excited as "Karmakaze" by NWR. My roots are in punk and the alternative side of music but for the last few years I've had a hard time connecting to the lyrics of most songs. There is so much anger and destruction, which honestly doesn't feel right for me. What NWR has done is combined hard, extremely intelligent music with mind blowing, heart opening lyrics. This to me = Magick. Since I got the CD, it's barely left my car stereo. It's perfect for the drive to morning yoga, really fires me up, and it's always a crowd favorite when heading out with my friends. NWR is talent meets wisdom, much needed in today's world. Now can I have more, please !
