Album Review

Like many traditional gospel recordings, Keep Living, credited to Ricky Dillard & New G, combines its old-style trappings with some of the R&B flavor of the 1970s; in this case, Dillard's horn section sometimes shows the influence of Earth, Wind & Fire. The most unusual track, however, is the appropriately named "Strange," a Walter Hawkins composition, which has the vocalese jazz sound of the Manhattan Transfer. But much of the disc is standard-issue black gospel. The gruff-voiced Dillard frequently hands off vocal duties to one of several female vocalists, including Jermia Cannon, Karen Clark-Sheard, Renee Crutchins, and Lavarnga Hubbard. They lead the choir in a series of statements of faith, often to thrilling effect. But except for "Strange," there's nothing unusual about the performance.

Best 9.99 spent in a while

While gospel music as a whole continues to flirt with the line of secularism and be drowned out by heavy hip hop inspired beats and crossover lyrics, Ricky Dillard stays true to what gospel music is! What a refreshing and very appropriate sequal to the 7th episode. I am thoroughly impressed. It is apparent that they took their time to not only consult God for the message, but to also make sure that the arrangement, band, and vocals were impeccable! The consistent theme of God's awesomeness, and gratefulness for our salvation is prevalent and I was reeealllyy blessed to hear my lady Karen Clark Sheard kill the end of "The Sweetest Name". Add in a couple sprinkles of Nikki Ross and a few other vocal MONSTERS on lead and you have a recipe for an A+ album that will be on heavy rotation for weeks, months, and years to come. I'll reiterate the title, I could've spent $9.99 on a lot of things, but this was the best I've spent in a loooong while!

Gosple Music is back!!!!

A++ From front to back this album will be and should be considered Ricky Dillard and New G best album and could be one of the greatest gosple albums!!! Classic!!! As long as RD and New G is doing gosple music then it will stay alive!! Keep doing it Brother Dillard!!
